We stayed here last year and just returned. I can't imagine anyone being treated disrespectfully by Giuli or his wife Michelle. This is a great place, wonderful views, clean and well appointed, and quiet. I plan on returning next year for a few days, as well. Nicer people you could never meet! I made an email reservation with Giuliano Basso three months prior to our trip in October and received a confirmation, with a request to call him on his cell phone the day prior to our arrival. The week prior to our departure I again emailed him to confirm our reservation and received a reply confirmation. I called Giuliano the day before our arrival, as requested, and he asked me to call him upon our arrival at the Vernazza car park, saying he would come to meet us. When we arrived, the car park attendant called Giuliano for us and told us he was in La Spezia and directed us to go to a restaurant in the village and wait. After an hour, the waitress (who had spoken with Giuliano several times by telephone) informed us that he did not have a room for us and that the restaurant handled his overflow. She showed us a dingy, dark, musty old "apartment" that we refused, leaving us to knock on the doors of local merchants to find lodging. Luckily it was not the height of the tourist season and we found a suitable room with private bath, although not with a view as we planned. I would not recommend Giuliano.
