Nice place on the main shopping street in Siena. {2 star}

We booked this hotel thru a kiosk at the Venice Train Station. All we knew about it was the price (€95). We were very happy to arrive at a clean, perfectly located hotel housed in a former palace. The interior is not fancy and the room was sparsely furnished, but it was large and had a modern bathroom. The hotel is on the main shopping street in Siena and very convenient to the Piazza del Campo. They took care to preserve as much of the old stone walls and ceilings, giving the hotel a rustic feel that I thought was charming.

Breakfast was included, served in a small dining area and consisted of fresh and packaged breads, juice, coffee, cereal and yogurt. Our room overlooked the main street which was great for people watching but rather noisy because of the traffic. We recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

When: July 2003

Cheap, basic two-star, spacious, great location

This two-star hotel has a great location and large rooms. It is cheap -- about 110 euros for three people in July 2003 -- and the decor is nothing to write home about but it is clean and airy. I stayed here on my honeymoon in 1996 and found it disappointing (not at all romantic!), but coming back with my husband and daughter in 2003 I thought it was perfect for our needs. No satellite TV, no A/C, no refrigerator, and the breakfast was of course overpriced and just OK. But location, location, location and price, price, price!
