Price: €180 with breakfast. This hotel was a splurge for us, and worth every penny. Castello di Monterado is an Italy few tourists are ever priveleged to witness, and live within its walls. It is located at the top of the hill in the small village of Monterado. Orlando and Kira are wonderful hosts. The castle has been in Orlando's family for many generations and this is its first year as a B&B. It is rich in history, which Orlando shared with us upon our arrival. The grounds are gorgeous: not only are there formal gardens but also a vast woods with paths throughout. The inside of the castle is not to be believed: it is more like a museum than a B&B. Filled with precious antiques, artwork, and furniture, we felt like a king and queen! It really is palatial. The suites are vast! We stayed in the "Suite Degli Sposi", ordered by the nephew of Napoleon to the daughter of Czar Alexandar of Russia! The sitting room and bedroom were both unbelievable. The most amazing part was the frescoes on the ceiling of both rooms, beautifully restored to perfect condition. We also had a vast stone terrace/balcony that overlooked the gorgeous landscape, including a glimpse of the Adriatic. Breakfast was served to us in our sitting room.
