This pretty convent has an enviable location. Offering lodgings in what is more like a pensione than a convent, their rooms run a dirt-cheap €79 with shared bath or €84 with private bath (only a few rooms available with those coveted facilities). The rooms that share a bath are equipped with a sink and bidet in the room, with shower and toilet in the bathrooms in the hallway which are spotlessly clean. The senior sister hails from Chicago. The Pros: The building has an attractive appearance, and while the accommodations are very basic (some may say spartan), they are very inexpensive which is hard to come by in this part of Rome. The curfew of midnight is more generous than many convents in town. The nuns are friendly and welcoming, which was a relief (not at all like the nuns I had for 8 years of Catholic school!) It is extremely clean. It is very conveniently located right off the Piazza Navona. The Cons: It is very conveniently located right off the Piazza Navona! The street noise on Corso del Rinascimento is very loud. Noisy, raucous party-dudes woke us at 2:00 a.m. If noise bothers you, request an interior courtyard-facing room and bring along earplugs. Breakfast is rather sparse. Bread, cornetti, and coffee or tea is served from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. But the upside ... the famed caffe Sant’Eustachio is a two minute walk from here. There is also a bar right across the street, and a pasticceria further north on the Corso. email: s.giuliana@tin.it This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
