Totally disappointing; badly kept hotel to avoid. {4 star}

This four-star hotel belongs to a reputable Sicilian hotel chain, the Framon Group. We booked our 10 day honeymoon at their hotels, which we found to be overpriced and not anything like the photos in their glossy pamphlets and flashy website.

The hotel in Agrigento was however by far the worst of the bunch. Overlooking the garbage dump "beach" and with a fabulous balcony over the bus parking lot, the deluxe room, at almost 200 euros, was clearly a disappointment.

We were shown to our "deluxe" room, but it had two single beds and a shower. Perfect for honeymooners, no? When we complained we were told that we had not specified a bathtub or double bed, and that this would cost more. We negotiated a bigger room, and then went to explore the grounds. The flower beds were full of weeds and a few straggling blooms. The restaurant, which was supposed to be in a beautiful glassed-in area, was abandoned. The pool did not look like the photo. And the worst thing was that this hotel claimed to have a beach, but did not. Behind the pool, fenced off, was a bit of shoreline littered with industrial and personal waste (see photo), with corresponding foul odours.

We were supposed to stay three days there "on the beach" but told them we would be leaving after just one night. To give them credit, they took this news graciously.
