Not in Venice but Modern and VERY comfortable with easy access to the bus line with a 15 minute trip to Venice. {3 stars}

The hotel Elite is in Mestre, the modern mainland part of Venice. We booked the hotel for three nights for 99.67 euros a night for a “Double Classic” and were happy with that for the reasons below. It is easy to find even though I’d never driven to Venice before, as I have taken the train. We took the Via Giovanni da Verrazzano exit off A4 and then stayed to the right at the fork of Via Bissuola (on the left) and Via Amerigo Vespucci (on the right). There is a sign just before Viale Francesco Sansovino telling you to turn right and at Via Forte Marghera another sign to turn right again.

We missed the hotel the first time and circled between Via Forta Marghera and Via Guglielmo Pepe twice before asking directions back a half block to Hotel Elite; I think the current phrase is “my bad.” The hotel is well located to take the bus into Venice for day excursions, while allowing you to retreat from that tourist frenzy into a clean, neat, and comfortable setting. The décor is modern yet warm, with a thoughtful staff that helps you relax for that next day’s beehive that is Venice.

The main attraction is the price but the soundproof rooms with electronic key, separate air conditioning, desk, direct telephone line, satellite TV, radio, fast Internet connection, safety deposit box, mini-bar, private bathroom with shower or bath tub and hairdryer are a real plus.

I know could sound like a commercial but it is hard to find these pluses in Venice as it dates back to the “middle ages” with few “modern” conveniences if you need or want them. Knowing my wife put a high value on the room temperature, I opted for this hotel knowing the short bus trip into Venice was not a burden. Sorry but romantic at our age must encompass comfort! The main drawback was the “breakfast bar” as it was very “Continental” with a coffee machine (yuck) and a “Days Inn” menu. However, you can have breakfast anywhere you wish so I look upon the “breakfast bar” as an option.

Pleasant hotel, great value, good location, 3 Star only as it is not “in Venice” and has a below-average breakfast bar.

Would we stay there again? Yes.
