Terrific and inexpensive choice for Malpensa airport. {4 stars}

I highly recommend this 4 star hotel when you need to depart on an early flight from Malpensa airport.

This modern hotel has all the amenities you expect from a 4 star hotel including great wifi access, decent sized bedrooms and bathrooms and very efficient and friendly service.

They also provide a free shuttle service to and from the airport which is about a 7 minute ride away. If arriving at the airport, call and they will pick you up. Or if you are returning a car rental the night before as we did, they will also pick you up after you return the car. On arrival at the hotel you book a time for the shuttle to take you to the airport.

The biggest and most pleasant surprise was how good the hotel dining room was! My friends even gad a fish entree that was excellent. They also allowed us to bring our own bottle of wine that I didn't have room for in my luggage and they didn't charge a corkage fee.

They run online specials frequently and we paid 84.60 euros for a non-refundable rate which was a terrific value. In fact when I asked if I could book a room for next May, he said I would get a much better deal on-line! This will always be my go-to hotel at Malpensa!

Hotel itself is fine for an airport hotel, but if you need a shuttle ride to the airport, you may be waiting a long time. This happened to me both stays.

I wrote a positive review for my stay at the First Hotel in July 2008. My only real complaint during that stay was the long wait for the shuttle ride pick up from the airport. I waited 25 minutes standing outside in a thunder and lightening storm, finally calling the hotel back to tell them that I would be waiting inside until the storm ended. There were two other women also waiting for the same shuttle. Their wait ended up being one hour long! Even though they were extremely upset about the long wait, I was forgiving, thinking it was a one time occurrence.

Unfortunately, I once again experienced a very long wait for the shuttle ride pick up from the airport during my stay at the First Hotel in July 2009.

The hotel is located only 5 minutes from the airport. There is no reason it should take one hour to arrive at the hotel using their shuttle service. It appeared to me that the hotel was more concerned with conserving shuttle runs than they were with providing their customers with convenient shuttle ride service.

I called for a ride as instructed when I arrived at the airport (mid-afternoon). I was asked how many people in my party and then was told the shuttle van would be there in 15-20 minutes. The shuttle ride arrived 40 minutes later. There were two of us on the van. We were told that we would have to wait 10 more minutes for two additional people. The shuttle van then drove to the other terminal to pick up another group. The shuttle finally arrived at the hotel one hour after my call for a pick up.

The hotel itself was fine. My room was once again clean, comfortable, and quiet and most of the staff were friendly and helpful.

My plan when booking this hotel again was to eat dinner the restaurant next to the hotel that everyone raves about, but just my luck, they were closed the evening I stayed there. Dinner at the hotel was expensive and nothing to rave about. The breakfast choices seemed to be much more sparse during this stay.

As a returning guest, I was promised free wi-fi, however it was impossible to keep a connection while in the room. Every 2-3 minutes I would lose the connection. I was however able to keep a wi-fi connection while sitting in the lobby.

My shuttle ride to the airport in the morning was on time. No problems there.

If you do not need a shuttle ride to the hotel, I would give the hotel a thumbs up, especially if you stay there on a night when the restaurant nearby is open. However, if you require a shuttle ride from the airport to the hotel, you may want to either be prepared for a very long wait standing outside on one of the little islands watching all the other airport hotel shuttles pass by 2-3 times - or think about staying at another hotel.

Very nice hotel at Malpensa near the airport.

Thanks to the good reviews that we found for First Hotel Malpensa on SlowTravel, we chose it for our last night in Italy - a very good choice it was.

After driving through the traffic-clogged industrial area around Milan, we were delighted to find First Hotel in a quiet, green residential area with a nice looking trattoria just next door. It was easy to find and had plenty of free parking.

The room was smallish, but very nice with a great modern bathroom, the beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked great. We enjoyed the lobby bar with the friendly barrista and shared a few drinks with our fellow Americans who were also flying out the next day.

The breakfast was good and plentiful, with a nice continental buffet or the option to order a hot breakfast. They do have a shuttle available, but we didn't use it, we dropped off our car at the airport on the way to our flight. It was easily done as we did not have an early morning flight.

They hotel has two computers and a printer available in the lobby for checking email and printing off boarding passes which was very convenient. It would probably be a good idea to reserve the shuttle in advance for very early flight times; I overheard one couple who were disappointed to hear that the five a.m. shuttle was full and they would need to catch the 4:30 a.m. one to get to the airport on time, yikes.

Now for the best part of our stay, our dinner at the trattoria, Ristorante La Quercia, next door. The food is very good with a terrific antipasti buffet table and the food is worth the visit, but the two wonderful aging waiters are just priceless. They speak little, if any, English and take their jobs very seriously in a friendly, happy way as they hurry back and forth from the kitchen to the dining room. It is a wonderful Italian experience and the perfect way to spend your last night in Italy.

Clean, convenient hotel near the Malpensa Airport with free shuttle.

I chose this hotel because of the option for a non-smoking room. The hotel offers double rooms for single use at a pretty good rate compared to many other airport hotels in the area. The hotel also offers 30 minutes of free internet use with a computer available in the lobby.

My room was clean, comfortable, and quiet.

Most of the staff were friendly and helpful.

The food was just ok with dinner being better than breakfast.

The shuttle ride to the airport in the morning was quick and on time. **It is mandatory to make the reservation for the shuttle ride in the morning to the airport when you check in.

The shuttle ride to the hotel the afternoon before took much longer. I would not have minded that much except I was standing outside in a thunder and lightening storm waiting for the shuttle. I was thankful that I had a phone to inform the hotel that I was going to wait inside for the shuttle until the lightening stopped. I wanted to make sure the shuttle would still stop at the designated pick up area and not drive right by while I was waiting inside. I am not sure why the shuttle took so long, but it was not a huge problem for me. The other two ladies that were waiting with me were not as forgiving, though.

It is hard for me to get excited over an airport hotel, but overall, I feel this hotel is a good choice. I have a reservation for my last night's stay in Italy again this summer.

Not inexpensive but convenient with a free shuttle to Malpensa. {4 star}

We stayed at this hotel on our last night in Italy -- we had an early flight the following morning and did not want the hassle of traveling from Milano to Malpensa.

We took the Malpensa Express shuttle bus from Stazione Centrale to Malpensa and just outside doorway 6 is the shuttle to First Hotel.

It is not a large facility but very contemporary in style and fairly new, clean and with all the amenities, including lobby bar and a ristorante. (The food was okay but the decor had a lot to be desired.)

The free shuttle picks you up and takes you back to either terminal. The hotel was (the equivalent of) $240 US per night but was worth it in convenience. We had a 10 AM flight and left on the 7:30 shuttle, arriving by 7:45 and leaving us plenty of time for cappuccino and some long looks in duty free before we left. We would definitely stay here again on trips out of Milano.
