A very nice, perfectly located, moderately priced hotel in Venice between San Marco and Accademia. {3 star}

This is a Best Western hotel. We paid 190E per night for a tiny but lovely room with a queen sized bed and a tiny bath but with an oversized shower (for Italy) and an impressive breakfast.

Our room was on the top (4th) floor (there is an elevator) with a small balcony overlooking a side canal off the grand canal. We heard gondola singers several times a day. The service was good; they spoke good English at the desk, and the breakfast was excellent.

The breakfast is cafeteria style, with a good fruit and pastry selection, boiled and scrambled eggs, ham and cheese, cereal and juice, coffee and tea.

The Ala is in an ideal location on a canal. It's close to the Grand Canal, a short block from the del Giglio vaporetto stop, just behind the expensive Palace Hotel Gritti; between Piazza San Marco and the Accademia Bridge.

Our only negative was we left our window open at dusk and attracted some mosquitoes.
