A charming hotel located just one block from the Duomo. {3 stars}

This was a wonderful hotel. I read about it on the SlowTalk message board, and it was reviewed in the NY Times. The hotel is in a great location - one block south of the Duomo.

The property is in an old building, dating back to the 15th century. It has been totally redone inside. When you walk in, it's an oasis of peace. The floors are blonde wood, and the decor very simple, tasteful and elegant (look at their picture on the website).

Our room was quite spacious, especially for a downtown hotel. The folks running the property couldn't have been nicer. Everything about this hotel was A-One. The room rate includes breakfast in the morning, which goes quite beyond the usual to include some nice homemade frittata and pastries.

The bathroom was good here. The shower didn't dump water all over the floor, and there were plenty of towels and other supplies.

All of this doesn't come cheap - we paid EURO 220.00/night for a double. We used it as our one night crash pad after the flight over, and it was a perfect choice. The hotel was quiet (via delle Oche is a small street with very little traffic), and the location was great. We walked out for a few hours after arriving - Piazza della Signoria is only 7 minutes away on foot.

Would I stay here again - without hesitation. Would I recommend this hotel to you - again, without hesitation. This is a gem of a hotel. Although it's rated as 3 stars, it feels like a 4 star property, but without the stuffiness of a 4 star. For us, it was a perfect choice after the long flight over. We just grabbed a cab from the airport to get there. The next day, they called a cab for us to take us down to the car rental agency.

I used to stay at the Hotel Casci in Florence (and I still stand by my earlier review); the Benivieni is definately a number of levels upscale. If you're looking for a comfortable, tranquil and warming place to stay in Florence, I don't think you can do better. We will return to the Benivieni whenever we need a hotel in Florence, and wholeheartedly recommend it to all.
