Very comfortable business hotel across the street from Stazione Centrale; serves as a great base for day trips. {4 stars}

This was our 5th visit to Milan so we choose this rather elegant 3-star hotel two blocks from the central train station to provide easy access for day trips. We did three - Bergamo, Varenna, and Pavia. The Metro station is half a block from the hotel for access to downtown Milan.

The bedroom was a bit on the small side but the bathroom separated by a short hall with a closet was huge and included an actual bath tub. The floor was carpeted. Amenities included a free non-alcohol mini bar, hair dryer, and a 30-inch HD flat screen TV with more channels than I have ever experienced in Italy (CNN, BBC, Russian, Spanish, and German).

The breakfast was one of the finest I have ever encountered in a hotel. In addition to the usual juices, fruits, cereals, there were scrambled eggs and bacon, an array of cooked vegetables, a juicer, and pastries that often included tiramisu and creme caramel in addition to the usual filled croissants, and meat and cheese.

The hotel is on a block filled with other hotels and some less than interesting restaurants. Since we were returning every day from having eaten large lunches on our day trips, this was not a real concern. Typically a drink at a bar with the usual happy hour or aperitivo was more than enough. More surprising was the resident pair of prostitutes every afternoon and evening outside the hotel. While they were unobtrusive it was disconcerting.

The hotel entrance is one step up from street level and there are three more steps to the lobby. The two elevators are extremely small. It required both of them for us and our luggage. They also have a weight limit of four people which is easy to exceed.

We found our average room rate of E133 to be very reasonable for Milan. Parking is available at E18 a day.
