Hotel Caravaggio was a very pleasant surprise & I highly recommend it for many reasons. Our room was spacious and immaculate with a large bathroom.

Upon arrival we were totally welcomed by Giuseppe who I had been in touch with to do the booking. He had given us driving directions and arranged to have our car parked with pick up and delivery which went very smoothly.

Our room was wonderful with a delightful view and very comfortable. Giuseppe also booked us reservations at the Uffizi and Accademia museums which are a must to avoid the longest lines. In fact, on his own he ordered a morning wake up call for us to make sure we got there on time which we might have missed had he not.

The hotel's bar is a hopping meeting place for guests where we shared our Florence and Italy experiences and got some great tips for our continuing trip. The breakfasts were quite good and typical for most three star hotels we stayed at. We felt very taken care of by the staff, totally safe and happy to be there. We paid 135 euros for the room per night including breakfast. Don't forget to get restuarant recommendations from Giuseppe which we found fabulous.

A wonderful small hotel with a great staff. We had a room on the back side of the hotel with a nice view. Room was a nice size with large enough bathroom.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed the stay very much. The staff gave good recommendation for restaurants and were very patient with our lack of ability to speak Italian. They couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. The location was about 1 mile from the train station and we walked pulling our luggage. Was not a problem. We paid 405.00 for 3 nights which I felt was a bargain.

Perfect location, great staff, good economy. {3 star}

The Hotel Caravaggio was a very nice, clean, affordable, three star hotel with a great location and super staff. They answered all my emails promptly and courteously and were very responsive to special needs and requests.

The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms looked almost brand new, and the breakfast wasn't fancy but very good. The maid service was exceptional, and there was a hotel bar.

Two small negatives: 1) There was very limited drawer space in either of the rooms we stayed in. We had an armorie and nightstands that had two tiny drawers but really no place to put our clothes (that weren't on hangers) when we unpacked.

2) Do not stay in any room that is on the first floor if quiet is important to you. Breakfast is served on this floor from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. After breakfast, the staff spends the next 6-8 hours cleaning and resetting the tables for the next morning's breakfast. You can hear every rattling dish, spoon, fork, knife and scraping chair. They also yell instructions to each other in Italian, loudly.

We had room 109 on the first floor when we first arrived and tried to take a little nap before we set out to explore Florence but it was impossible because of the noise from the staff setting up for breakfast the next day. The inside wall of room 109 was the outside wall of the breakfast room!! I asked Giuseppe if we could be moved to another room that was quieter and he was very gracious about it. He moved us to room 213.

Other than these two things, this hotel is a good bargain at 68 a night.

A real find! The old Hotel Mary completely renovated with lovely rooms and great rates! {3 star}

We moved to Hotel Caravaggio for the last night of our stay in Florence and discovered a wonderful place to come back to next time. The Caravaggio used to be the Hotel Mary, but is now completely renovated. While the Piazza Indipendenza itself is not one of Florence's garden spots, it's a much nicer area than the one around the train station, and we felt very comfortable walking back there at night.

The room we stayed in here was roomy and attractive and nicely decorated. The bathroom had all the amenities and looked brand new. It was spotlessly clean, as was the room. The room had a television, a mini bar refigerator, and air conditioning. The breakfast room was very pleasant and they had the usual European style buffet.

The staff at the front desk of the Caravaggio were very friendly and helpful, and when my husband was checking us out he heard other people telling the staff what a nice hotel they had. The Accademia and San Marco are very accessible from the Caravaggio. It's a little longer walk to the Duomo and other central sights, but considering the amount of walking we did in Florence anyway this was a very slight downside. Our room was 118 a night and was rated at three stars. Hotel Caravaggio offers a lot for a great rate, and we would happily go back.
