Room with a view of Lake Como.

Hotel du Lac is a small hotel on several floors in Varenna, directly overlooking Lake Como. Our room had a large balcony overlooking the lake, and it is well worth the extra to book one of these rooms. The balcony was almost as large as our room, which was about average size. The room had sleek modern furniture of very good quality with comfortable beds, and a bathroom with new fixtures.

The breakfast buffet was outstanding, with hot frittatas, pastries, cereal, yogurt, cold meats and cheeses and lots of fresh fruit. The coffee tasted wonderful on the large patio overlooking the lake. It was almost hypnotic to sit there watching the changing clouds over the water. We hated to leave!
