Hotel Duomo is within 2 blocks of the Duomo in Siena, on the upper level.

The Hotel Duomo is a 3* property only 2 blocks from the Duomo.

A buffet breakfast consisting of mainly breads, cereal, fruit, juice and coffee was included in the rate. The breakfast room is in the basement and you need to walk down a full flight of stairs to get there from the lobby.

They also have the internet to use in the breakfast room, but having tried it twice I could not get it to work. They allow you an hour free internet time each day.

When I first saw the hallways and room it reminded me of a student dorm, in regards to the furnishings. It turned out to be quite comfortable with air conditioning, if needed. We did not need it, but did need extra blankets and some heat a couple of nights. When we asked at the reception, we were told that they are not allowed to have heat on until November.

The room is very basic with a small tv, large closet and hairdryer in the bathroom. The shower stall is quite small but adequate. The windows open and have shutters to keep out the light at night.

The best part about this hotel is the location, being on the upper level close to many shops and restaurants. They offer free parking in a garage near the Porta Tufi, which is about a 10 minute walk downhill. The receptionist in the hotel will register your vehicle with the police and stamp your parking ticket each time you take the car out. You are only allowed to drive to the hotel itself to drop off luggage.

I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for some place with a reasonable price, parking, breakfast and within the historical centre of Siena.

The location is wonderful and the view even better. My spacious room was a bit "seedy" and smelled. There were gouges in the paneling and the walls had dirty marks.

The room was a good size and had a large bathroom, but I thought it was rundown and in need of a renovation. There was a bit of a smell, but the windows opened, so I didn't care. The breakfast was average, but the service was pleasant. The staff was very helpfful.

Pleasant and well located for walking around Siena.

Sally Watkins, Travel Goddess, booked a corner room for us here at 130 per night. We had a private balcony with beautiful view of the Duomo and garden below. Our private bathroom had a window looking out over tile rooftops. Furnishings were comfortable, staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was substantial enough that we could survive on just gelato for lunch.

We loved the convenient location and the free parking at the underground "Campo" garage. Driving to the hotel to drop off the luggage, then to the garage was not without a few wrong turns but we made it. We would stay there again for the location and the view. Words cannot describe seeing the softly illuminated Duomo against a cobalt pre-dawn sky.

Location! Location! location! Recommended, but... {3 stars}

Hotel Duomo (130/night, bed and extended continental breakfast) is exceptionally well located, no question. We stayed in the Annex, which is in a building adjacent to that of the hotel itself, and we were not happy.

First, the instructions how to drive to the hotel to drop of the luggage and then to take the car to the free parking garage were woefully inadequate and the hotel front desk didn't really make any effort to clarify what roads to take, not even when standing in front of them and asking them. They just didn't seem to care.

Second, we stayed in Siena four days and it rained during all four. It turns out that Siena's medieval sewage system cannot handle this type of weather and, as result, there was permanently a pretty bad odour in our bathroom, insinuating itself into the room proper. We had to exercise pressure to get somebody to do something about it, and there was temporary relief, but even this was done inconsistently and with a pretty negative attitude from staff and management. By the way, the washroom next to the front desk never had any bad odour...

Third, friends from out of town left a message for us advising that they will come into Siena to meet us and the hotel staff never advised us and never even admitted that the message was received.

Why do I still recommend the hotel? Well, the location is unequalled, whether for a short or a long stay in Siena. Then, it may not rain while you are there, therefore the reason for our main complaint may not be a problem during your stay. And, if you don't need the hotel staff, you'll have no problem with the indifferent attitude. Finally, we stayed in the Annex. it is possible that the situation in the hotel with respect to washrooms is different.

Three stars out of three for the breakfast service.
