When: May 2007

Charming small hotel minutes from Campo dei Miracoli and the leaning tower. Friendly staff, reasonable prices. {3 stars}

Four friends and I were staying in Pisa for just one night before heading to southern Tuscany. One of the group had stayed here in 2006 and liked it. We booked two rooms via the 'hotel in italy' website.

We arrived very late (11:00pm), were quickly checked in and took the tiny elevator to our rooms (across the hall from each other). One room was a 3-bedded triple, and one was a 2-bedded double. Both rooms were immaculate, and decorated simply. Each room had a desk and chair, TV, and ensuite bathroom with enclosed shower.

The double room overlooked the botanical garden - in the morning we heard birds singing very early! That was okay ... it encouraged us to get up and get going early. :) The triple room overlooked the street, but with the rolling shade down, it was quiet.

Breakfast wasn't included, but we walked a few doors down for coffee and brioches.

The location can't be beat for easy access to the campo. There were lots of interesting looking restaurants and shops in the area, too, including a 'deli' type shop selling grappa in leaning tower glass bottles!

In the morning when we all checked out, the woman at the desk kindly called two cabs to take us to the rental car office. She was very friendly, and didn't seem to mind our gabbing in her lobby while we waited. :)

Convenient location and fine for short stay.

We spent one night at the Hotel Francesco. Our room was clean and quiet. It was located on the back side and had a balcony shared with one other room overlooking a small street. The breakfast was OK, nothing spectacular - but we did have a fantastic view of the Leaning Tower from the terrace where it was served. Free internet point for hotel guests.

Our bathroom was extremely small with a miniscule shower. There was no way you could keep water from soaking the bathroom floor while showering. However, besides the drain in the shower there was one in the bahtroom floor also, so at least it drained away.

Very convenient location for the Campo dei Miracoli and fine for one or two nights. Cost: 100 euros.

Small family run {3 star} hotel, conveniently located in Pisa.

We stayed in the Hotel Francesco for 1 night; the rate was 100, although we did save 5 by paying in cash. The hotel was clean and relatively quiet, although our room was extremely small; the bed was wedged into an alcove where there was a real danger of banging your head on the wall if you needed to get up in the night.

A continental breakfast was served downstairs in the breakfast room, and was good, there was also internet access and a view of the leaning tower from the patio. The staff was helpful, and recommended several restaurants.

It was fine for the one night we stayed but I wouldn't want to have stayed any longer; the set up with the bed was quite unpleasant.
