Vulcano: Hotel Garden

Nice small 3-star hotel; more of a residence feel. Pretty and quiet surroundings, walking distance to the sea. Helpful and accommodating staff. Tiny room but workable.

We paid €30 per person for a double room, two beds. This was the last, or second-to-last, weekend of being open.

The hotel is within easy walking distance to everything on the island of Vulcano. The grounds are basic, with grass and trees, but nothing really special. It is incredibly quiet as it's off the main road. Its grounds lead to the sea as well. Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted enthusiastically (nice change from the previous day). We were told what to see and do, which was the best restaurant to eat at, how to get to the mud baths, etc. We arrived around 6 p.m. The next morning we were treated just as nicely, and they seemed interested in what we'd seen the previous night. Their breakfast was a simple one, normal for Italian hotels, with one difference -- they had three large urns of coffee, tea and milk. The coffee tasted like "American style" and was weaker than what I've become used to. They had a bar, where I then asked for some espresso, and was given one free.

We both recommend this hotel as a nice, quiet, relaxing place to stay for a night on Vulcano island. It is closed during winter, as are nearly every restaurant and hotel on the islands. Watch the dates when planning a trip.
