An immaculate 3 star hotel at bargain prices near Cinque Terre & Portofino.

I missed out on getting a room here a couple of years ago (no reservation) but the lobby and dining room looked so good I had to return.

Everything is done in blond veneers with flush (hidden) doors and polished brass (yacht architecture?). The halls and rooms have beautiful terrazzo floors and everything is spotless. Breakfast was well done (with a view of the Mediterranean); everything was fresh, and included meats & cheeses. The hostess would walk around and describe the choices to people who had 'pensione completa' for dinner. It was obvious that she cared about the details and people enjoying everything.

There is also a micro-brewery just down the street that makes great pizzas. We paid 76 euros a night for a double and I thought it was the best value I'd had in 4 trips to Italy (except for monasteries).

Sestri Levante is a great base to visit the Cinque Terre & Portofino from and the Hotel Genova is an easy walk with luggage from the train station. Sestri is big enough to have plenty of shopping and dining choices, as well as its own beautiful beaches and seaside charm, but avoids the traffic and tourists.
