Comfortable hotel in a nice location. {4 stars}

Hotel Giorgione is a 4-star hotel located at the eastern end of Cannaregio. It has a nice lounge and a full service bar. It provided a fairly extensive breakfast appealing to a variety of tastes (both scrambled and boiled eggs, cold cuts, breads, cereal, fruit, cornetti and other sweets).

The rooms had telephones, small televisions, and hair dryers. We were there 3 nights and paid €170 on Wednesday and Thursday and €230 for Friday night.

The rooms were on the small side for US standards, but not atypical for Italy. In fact, they were pretty comfortable for Italy. The bathroom was large enough for two people to be in it at the same time, but I still don't understand the Italian preference for showers without shower doors or curtains.

Hotel Giorgione advertised free wireless Internet access in the public areas, but that was a joke. You could only get a signal in the far corner of the bar nearest the door to the outside terrace -- and even then, it wasn't very good.

The location is excellent, just behind the SS Apostoli church. It was a 10 minute walk to St. Marks and less to the Rialto Bridge. It is very close to the eastern end of Strada Nuovo, the main thoroughfare in Cannaregio. It took us about 7 minutes to walk to Fondamenta Nuove to catch the Vaporetto to Murano and Burano.

Just around the corner was Ai Promessi Sposi, a very nice wine bar with food, and within a short walk near Strada Nuovo were Cantina, Alla Vedova, and Vini di Gigio.

All the staff at the front desk and most of the breakfast room staff all spoke English and other languages as well. They were very helpful.

A beautiful refuge away from the hubbub and crowds of San Marco - yet conveniently located to everything in Venice. {4 stars}

Giorgione is a splendid four star hotel located in Cannaregio, a quiet area in the center of Venice without the noise. Our water-bus stop was Ca’Doro - only a 5 minute walk to our hotel.

We would wake up in the morning to the sound of birds chirping - the peace and quiet was refreshing. Our breakfast buffet was amazing. It included eggs, bacon, fruits, marmelade, bread, cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, cereals, sweets, orange juice, fruit juice, coffee, tea, chocolate, etc. We ate our breakfast in a beautiful dining room or you may opt to sit outside on the terrrace -a lovely area with tables and umbrellas beside a pool.

Our superior double room faced a courtyard on the second floor. It was decorated in Venetian style and quite nice. We had a shower in our bathroom but experienced some difficulty in the morning because of a lack of hot water. This occured during the hours of 8 and 10 when everyone else was getting ready for breakfast. We were told that this problem would be fixed during the summer -our only complaint.

When we arrived at the hotel we ate at Osteria Giorgione, a charming restaurant located on the premises. It serves wonderful food. There is also a bar where you may purchase drinks later in the day.

To sum it up, Giorgione is an immaculate full service hotel conveniently located in a quiet area of Venice - a short walk to Piazza San Marco. The staff were very accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back here again provided the hot water system is fixed.

The Hotel Giorgione is a gem and so pretty. We just loved this hotel.

We took a water taxi directly from the airport to a tiny canal just a few steps from the hotel. Thank goodness, there were no bridges to cross with our heavy wine-laden luggage!

We were greeted at the front desk by the most delightful people who welcomed us warmly and who were very helpful with directions and recommendations throughout our stay. The lobby is nicely appointed in warm woods with huge arrangements of fresh flowers. The sitting rooms are lovely with comfy sofas and chairs and Murano glass everywhere - chandeliers, sconces and special pieces set in display cases - but very tastefully done.

There are also two beautiful breakfast rooms and an outdoor courtyard for breakfast and tea in nice weather. A nice feature is a small but comfortable bar area which was open in the evenings for a nightcap. Next to the bar is a billiards room with a computer and a free Internet connection.

We had a superior room (€225) which was small but we did have room to stretch since it was a duplex. Downstairs had a king-sized bed, antique night stands and writing desk, an armoire and a stocked minibar. Upstairs had a sitting room with a silk covered divan, TV and a balcony overlooking the rooftops and towering campaniles. The bathroom was large and modern with an enclosed shower.

The lighting throughout was all Murano glass sconces. We discovered that evening that we also had turndown service, candies on our pillows and two umbrellas in every room. We really appreciated those little touches.

Breakfast was excellent as was the service. The breakfast buffet was served in a delightful room of Murano chandeliers, sconces, bouquets of fresh flowers and the sounds of Viennese waltzes. We were thrilled to see scrambled eggs and prosecco chilling on the buffet table, along with the usual assortment of cheeses, hams, salamis, fruits, juices and cereals. This was the best breakfast assortment of our trip.

We liked the location because we were away from the major crowds and in a nice little neighborhood with small local shops and restaurants nearby. The Ca’ d’Oro vaporetto stop is close by and the hotel is about a 15-minute walk to San Marco and also not far from the Rialto Bridge.
