This is a wonderful hotel in charming Ortisei in the Val Gardena. It was completely rebuilt in 2007 and no detail was spared! {4 stars}

I cannot wait to return one day to the Hotel Grones! We had a lovely weekend get-away in beautiful Ortisei.

The hotel is family run and was completely rebuilt in 2007, with no expense spared. There is also on-site parking which is included in the fee.

The rooms are spacious and very tranquil with all of their light wood finishings. We had a balcony overflowing with geraniums that looked down to the city center of Ortisei. The bathroom was large and the shower excellent with lots of hot water. We especially enjoyed the use of the fluffy bathrobes which are in every room. The Grones has an indoor pool and sauna which we did not use, but it was very inviting.

The hotel is about a 5 minute walk down to the center, easily reached on foot and with the elevators the city has installed to carry you down to the center. They are turned off after a certain hour at night (I think 9pm, but maybe this changes depending on the season) though you can climb the steps without a problem.

We did a half-board plan and ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel's gourmet restaurant. Each evening we had five courses (rich salad bar, appetizer, first, second and dessert) and each plate was more delicious than the first.

What really makes this hotel are the owners. Their kindness and hospitality trickle down to every person who works there from the kitchen staff, waiters, housekeepers, etc. We really enjoyed talking to them and were amazed at how easily they could switch from Italian to German to English to Ladino (their local language). They were delightful and made you feel like you were family staying in their home.
