NORCIA! It's blindingly beautiful and has a distinct medieval atmosphere. To appreciate both these things stay at the Grotta Azzurra Hotel. {3 star}

The hotel is run by a local family and you instantly feel at home there. The atmosphere is incredibly friendly; big smiles all the time. I arrived in an extremely busy period for them, but nothing was ever a problem.

Everyone there was also extremely helpful in giving me information about the surrounding area. Norcia is really incredibly beautiful and there are stunning walks and drives around the region; the hotel can arrange a guide if you don't trust yourself with a map!

I also recommend the food here; too delicious, and served in front of an enormous open fire on which they toast your bread. Do go; Norcia is fascinating and beautiful, and not yet discovered by the crowds.
