Our stay at Il Girasole in Anacapri was GREAT. It was an island of calm compared to Capri near Marina Grande. {3 stars}

Our stay at Il Girasole in Anacapri was GREAT. This small hotel has 24 rooms. It was an island of calm compared to Capri near Marina Grande. Anacapri on the whole was quieter, and less crowded than Capri town. Heaven could be a lot like this place if only there werenít any credit card charges.

Back to the hotel. It is located outside of Anacapri proper on a hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples. The sunsets are spectacular. From outside your room door, Ischia twinkles like a jewel in the Bay of Naples most days, or looks like a small cloud topped mountain some days. The vegetation around the hotel is lush. Bougainvillea climbing on the terrace, flowers planted everywhere. A vineyard is planted in back of the pool area.

This hotel is located 2 blocks from the Faro bus line that travels between Punta Carena and Anacapri proper. They will pick you up at Marina Grande on a shuttle bus for 7 euros per person. You just call them when your ferry leaves from the Naples port. It is easier to walk about 10 minutes to a bus hub near Caprile to catch buses to Capri town or the Marina Grande.

You can reach Axel Muntheís house by taking one of those buses and getting off right before the bus begins it hair-raising descent down the mountain to Capri town. One of those buses or the faro bus can also take you to the other Anacapri bus hub where you can on Via Tommaso where you can catch a bus to the Blue Grotto.

You can see the hotel location and the location of a lot of the other place that I mentioned on this Google map I made of Capri. The hotel is a greenhouse with a flag on it. Click HERE for Google map

The rooms are only average size for Italian hotels, and while the bathroom is not huge, it is above average for Italian hotel bathrooms. The shower has curtains, so that you donít get water all over the bathroom floor every time you shower. There are no screens on the windows, so donít open the windows at night unless you want to get bit by mosquitoes because of all the vegetation. A/C is no additional charge. In May, this place was a bargain for Capri hotels at 88 euros a night for an 8-night stay.

The continental breakfast was good: homemade cakes, granola, toast, croissants, yoghurt, coffee, juice, cheese, and sliced meats. Eggs one day. There is no restaurant in the hotel. 15-minute walk to Piazza Boffe near San Sofia brings you to an area with many good restaurants. Our favorite was Il Saraceno. The restaurants in Anacapri on the whole were less expensive than the ones in Capri town.
