We enjoyed our 4-night stay at the Hotel Lancelot. We selected a room upgrade to a 6th floor terrace room (cost €210). The bed and room were very comfortable but we particularly enjoyed the terrace. It was large and full of plants and if you looked down the street to the left you could see the Colosseum, the dome of St. Peter's and a small piece of the Vittorio Emanuele memorial. The only drawback to the terrace was that there was a terrace available to everyone in the hotel that was located between ours and the next room. Occasionally, there were people sitting there smoking when we used our terrace. I didn't care for that. For the most part, the hotel and our room were clean, but there was a small carpet in our room that could have used vacuuming. The breakfast included cereal, breads, fruit, cold cuts, cheese, and cornetti. There was nothing great about the breakfast. It met our basic needs without much excitement. The front desk staff at the hotel was outstanding. They were friendly and went out of their way to help with restaurant reservations, touring suggestions, and calling taxis. It certainly helped that they all spoke excellent English which allowed me to give my poor Italian a rest. Reviewed by: SuzanneS from NC, review #1904 When: May 2007
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Lancelot for six days in May 2007. It was the last week of our vacation in Italy and our college-aged children joined us there. They arrived before we did, tired out from the trip and were immediately shown to their room even though it was before check-in time. Our rooms were quite nice at 180 euros each, connected by a lovely plant filled terrace where we relaxed each afternoon after a day exploring Rome. We had dinner at the hotel the first night - good food and great company at the communal "round tables". Breakfast was also very enjoyable, meeting and talking with new people each morning. We found wonderful places to eat in the neighborhood then retired to the bar/lounge to enjoy cocktails and chat with other guests. The hotel is located three blocks fromn the coliseum and the "red bus" stop - perfect for us. All of the staff was superb; making reservations, giving advice for shopping, even opening a stubborn bottle of wine to take to our terrace. The last night we felt very privileged when the owner, Mrs. Khan, invited us up to her apartment to see the view from her private terrace. An outstanding view and a gracious hostess really capped off the stay. We cannot recommend the Lancelot too highly. Enjoy your stay!
