Right on the main piazza of San Gimignano. Clean, modern rooms with a great breakfast. Request a room with a view of the countryside beyond.

Professional staff, english-speaking. All correspondence promptly answered by email. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable. Bathrooms roomy and lots of hot water in the showers. Air conditioned; but the night we were there it was so cool that we just opened the windows. The view over the valley below was spectacular, especially the lights of the villages at night.

Great breakfast included: rolls, pastries, toast, yogurt (packaged), cereal, fresh meats and cheeses, fruit, caffe and cappuchino. The breakfast terrace (there's an indoor breakfast room, too) is on the roof with umbrellas tables. The hotel also has a Jacuzzi for guests use and a large tv room, with soft seating. Signs advertise a billiards room, but the kids could never find it.

Cars are allowed to drive into the piazza to unload (ask in advance for driving directions), but, since we had a 9 passenger van, we just parked at the public parking lot at Porta San Giovanni and carried our day bags up (the very steep) Via San Giovanni to the Piazza della Cisterna.

San Gimignano is magical after dark when the tourist buses have departed. I highly recommend staying at the Hotel Leon Bianco. We paid €105 per double room, with views. The Bar La Cisterna, right outside the front door was convenient for sandwiches, salads and late night drinks.
