If you're looking for a great place along the Amalfi coast, try the 4-star Hotel Luna Convento.
Perched on a spur of rock as you come into Amalfi, the Luna Convento was originally a 13th century monastery reportedly founded by St. Francis. The entrance sneaks up on us but unlike many other places along the Costiera Amalfitana we can at least pull over off the road to the hotel door. We step inside and take the elevator to the 2nd floor where the reception is located.
Very friendly and very efficient, Mr. Ciccone the manager checks us in and takes care of our car; we decide not to use it for this leg of the trip and will rely on public transport. As it turns out this was a wise move.
The hotel has two restaurants (one was closed until after Easter) and since much is closed in town we eat at the hotel for two of our three nights in Amalfi. The food is delicious both nights, the wine list is comprehensive and the wines seem reasonably priced -- at least the ones I'm familiar with. The service both in the restaurant and throughout the hotel is impeccable. The sitting areas are spacious and make for easy relaxation.
Our room is quite nice, the bed is most comfortable in fact and the bathroom is spacious with a great shower.
The price of the room was 185 euros/night.
