A peaceful refuge from the Stendhal syndrome.

As Pauline said in the hotel section introduction, a city hotel should be a refuge from the stresses of urban life. This is exactly what we experienced at Morandi alla Crocetta. This was our first stop on our trip last June, and we arrived exhausted from the flight and a train ride from Rome.

The hotel is on a tiny street near the Univ. of Florence, close to the center but in a less hectic area. Our room was #23, a triple with s small loft alcove with a 3rd bed, a small sitting area with a couch and mini-bar, a desk, and a wardrobe. The furniture was comfortable and attractive, and the bathroom was fully tiled and very well equipped. I was a bit concerned that the room opened right off the small lobby, but we never heard any noise. The lobby has wonderful overstuffed chairs and felt like a cozy living room. The hotel employees were extremely helpful, booking a taxi and making dinner reservations and recommendations. My overall feeling about staying here was that it was like being a guest in a very lovely private home. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Florence.

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but found a tiny bakery called Caffelatte a few blocks away that we visited each morning (it is listed in the Sandra Gustafson "Cheap Eats" book).
