Lovely hotel near Lake Garda {3 stars}

To break a long day's drive from Zagreb to Milan we booked the Nazionale Hotel in Desenzano del Garda for a one night stay.

It was a lovely, modern hotel and perfect for our needs; it was close to the highway, easy to find, had free parking and was convenient to walk to the town center and harbor on Lake Garda. The rooms were a nice size with great modern bathrooms containing all the amenities. The air conditioning worked perfectly and the beds were comfortable. The room included a small refrigerator and safe.

We were delighted with the morning breakfast; it was fresh and plentiful. Seating was provided both inside the breakfast room and on the lanai overlooking the pool. The landscaping around the hotel and the town of Desenzano is lush and beautiful, making eating outdoors a very pleasant experience.

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful in suggesting dinner options in town as well as helping us plan a trip to Sirmione the next morning. They suggested that we leave our bags and car at the hotel for the day while we took the ferry to Sirmione for lunch and an afternoon of exploring. Sirmione was a terrific half day trip. Afterward, we returned to Desenzano by ferry, picked up our car and drove on to Milan, a very nice stop at the end of our three week trip.
