Repubblica - Termini: Hotel New Gemini

I recommend this hotel, if only because the employees are so helpful and sincere.

We ended up at the Hotel New Gemini not by any plan whatsoever. Our stay was only one night, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention it. We selected the New Gemini simply because it was visible from the train station when we arrived in Rome and we could walk to it. Our thinking at the time was not having to haul ourselves and our luggage thru the streets of Rome looking for a place to sleep for the night. We walked into the lobby and promptly confused the desk clerk. It took her a moment to understand that we had no reservation. Once that was cleared up, all employees within earshot went out of their way to help us.

The hotel itself seemed very old with a faded elegance that still came thru in the lobby and stair cases and halls. Our room was small and unforgiving, with little space for the mountain of luggage we carted in. The bathroom was as clean as they could get it, but the shower definitely needed replacing due to excessive mildew. They did their best, though, to include as many amenities as possible which included an in-room refrigerator, honor bar, hair dryer and bath items. Breakfast was included and consisted of a very nicely presented buffet with sweet rolls, breads, fruit and juices. I do not recall what the room charge was, but it was under 130. Upon departure, the front lobby attendant carried our luggage to the train station, helped us get a ticket and also helped us with boarding. Although I would not seek out the Hotel New Gemini as a place to stay for a vacation in Rome, it was a convenient place to stay for two very tired travelers.
