Dirty rooms; communal showers that didn't work; and the feeling of a drug user/hooker-ridden apartment building in bad movies. {1 star}

Let me start off by saying that the location and price of this place was great. It's less than 5 minutes from the Milan Duomo, and I only paid €30 for a single room for the night. It was a one star hotel, and when you first walk in it doesn't seem that bad. The bad side of the hotel didn't show itself until I was checked in, and started the journey up to my room.

First, I was tired, and had a bad case of strep throat with a fever, and had only an hour before I was supposed to be across town to look at a grad school. With all this, things that normally I probably wouldn't have minded so much bothered me a lot more.

Such as the hotel not having an elevator. Not so bad, except my room was on the 5th floor, and involved first going to the 3rd floor, then down a hall and up a different set of stairs to the 5th. Once I got to my room it took about 5 minutes of messing with the lock to get the door to open, all the while standing in a rather sketchy looking hallway.

When I got in my room, I was rather dissapointed. While the bed at least appeared to be clean, the sink that jutted out from the wall was disgusting, and the floors were dirty. I also felt the need to keep my door securly locked at all times.

The bathroom down the hall didn't appear to bad upon first glance, although I was worrying about where to place any clean clothes... It wasn't until the next morning that I discovered the shower only had one stream of water that worked, and it was cold.

I think that the more expensive rooms in the hotel may have been nicer, but I for one don't want to go back to find out. My experience here was definitely the worst so far, including the many hostels I've stayed in. I would take any of them over this place again. If I had been staying more than one night in Milan, I would have tried to hunt down a different place for the rest of my stay. For one night, though, I managed.
