When: October 2003

A bit worn and worse for the wear, the Hotel Orta has a great location on the lake. Our room had a view of San Giulio island; dining room also has fabulous view of the lake.

The dining room and hotel sit on the shore of Lake Orta on the north end of Piazza Motta - the main town square of the charming town of Orta S. Giulio.

Our room was medium sized with a small balcony facing the lake with a beautiful view of the island. Dining room with large windows with a nice view of the lake. 105 euro/night for bed and breakfast. There are some rooms with balconies which are larger; these are apparently reserved for people taking half board.

Small minuses are worn carpets in halls and a somewhat too soft bed.

When: 3 times over past 12 years

Fabulous location for this 3 star gem on Lago Orta.

This place oozes old world charm. We have stayed here 3 times and I have sent dozens of my clients here. The location is the biggest asset. It is the prime location in this charming village and overlooking the Lake and the island of San Giulio. Actually, it has seen better days - just a bit tattered around the edges - but you won't care. Try to get a room with a balcony over the Lake.

Their half-board is well worth the price. The dining room is a real experience. Expect to pay about $120 for a double - about $150 with half-board.
