When: May 2006

Very convenient to Termini, easy 10 minute downhill walk to centro storico, several main bus lines stop just outside the door. {3 star}

I stayed here for one night before returning home and chose the hotel for its location; a five minute walk from Termini train station. It was inexpensive (70 for a Saturday night, booked through www.venere.com) and well located.

The hotel shares space with another hotel, the Augustea. The hotel does have an elevator, but you must climb steps (approximately 5-10) from the street to the lobby where the elevator is located. It is extremely small (no more than three people without luggage). The lobby is located one floor up.

The staff is Asian-Italian, but at least one person at the front desk spoke English. A very minimal breakfast is included in the room cost and was served between 7:30 - 9:30 a.m.

My room was in the back of the hotel, facing onto the backs of several other buildings. It was quiet. The room itself was small, with a full size bed, small table and desk, 13 inch color TV and armoire. The bathroom was also small, with a tub/shower, sink, toilet and bidet. There is no in room safe for valuables. Although somewhat beat up, the room was clean.

My concern at this hotel was safety. The room was a long way from the elevator, down three long, dark corridors. The only lock was a push button in the door handle, and there was no bolt or chain. To feel more comfortable, before going to bed I pushed the table and chair up against the door between it and the bed.

The hotel met my needs in terms of location and price, but I would not stay here again alone because of the security concerns. If I had someone else with me this would not have been so great a concern.
