A beautiful hotel at the edge of Trastevere!

Let me preface this all by saying that we loved the Hotel San Francesco. Our room was lovely and quiet with every effort taken for comfort and convenience. The bathroom was modern and big and we had a lovely view over the rooftops of Rome. Breakfasts were incredible - many choices with fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, pastries, juices, cheeses and meats with sinfully delicious capuccino's. In the evenings you can enjoy beautiful views of Rome with cocktail in hand while relaxing at the rooftop bar. The staff is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable and ready to help in every way.

That all being said, the Hotel San Francesco is at the EDGE of Trastevere around the corner to the Porte Portese market and Testaccio. What this translates to is if you want to get into the very center of Rome (Piazza Navona, Campo di Fiore, the Forum, Vatican, etc...) you either have to walk distances or take public transportation.

Now, my husband and I are great walkers. Love to walk. Love it. This is our fourth trip to Rome and we've happily walked most of it. By the end of our week in Rome staying at the edge of Trastevere, we had decided on our next trip to this great city we would book a hotel closer to the center.

{3 star} Great Staff. Good Room - Huge! Very comfortable bed. Walking distance to everything. I wish all my hotel stays were this nice.

We stayed at the Hotel San Francesco for six nights in the height of the heat wave. We asked for and were given a room that faced the cloister. The room was totally quiet and the air conditioning was sufficient to keep the room comfortable.

The location was great - next to the Santa Maria in Trastevere and we could walk to all the other attractions easily.

The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. There were lectures on the history and art of Rome that were good, given in an airconditioned room. Buffet breakfast was in the lovely roof terrace and was ample with all sorts of good cold food. We came back to the Hotel San Francesco for our last night in Italy and we would go back there again in a heartbeat.
