Catania: Hotel Savona

This hotel was apparently remodeled recently. Our room was tasteful and spacious, but beware: There is no elevator! {3 stars}

We stayed at the Savona on our last night in Sicily, before flying out on a 6:00 a.m. flight. It worked well for us, but anyone booking here should know in advance (we didn't) that there is no elevator.

Even though our room was on the "first" floor, there were actually two rather long flights of stairs to our floor. In addition to high ceilings, there appeared to be a floor of private offices between us and the ground level.

We had been in Sicily for a month and had more luggage than usual, and if we hadn't packed an overnight tote and left everything else off in the lobby, it would have been inconvenient to say the least. The location is good, just a few steps from the duomo, and there is a taxi stand right across the street.

We arranged for a taxi at 4:45 and it cost 20 euro to the airport for the 10 minute ride. I didn't like the fact that our luggage was left overnight in a room right off the lobby with the door wide open. I was told there was someone at the desk all night (sure). I still felt compelled to open every bag to see whether anything looked disturbed.
