When: April 2002

We spent two nights here and voted this the Best Hotel of the entire month long trip. {3 stars}

This hotel was only about (the equivalent of) USD$75 per night for a double with breakfast. The building itself was gingerbread house looking and set up on a hill, surrounded by tall majestic evergreens offering through their boughs breathtaking glimpses of the snow capped mountain peaks in the distance. The hotel was impeccably maintained inside and out and was oozing old world charm (the hostess donned traditional alpine frockery).

Stepping into the room was like passing through a black hole! Everything inside was completely contemporary in both design and comfort. Tastefully understated furniture, luxurious down comforters with cozy cotton duvets and wonderfully lofty pillows, TV w/remote, radio, minibar, armoire with clothes friendly hangers, alarm clock , etc. The bathroom! Tiled from floor to ceiling, German design fixtures, great water pressure and plenty of hot water, spacious, squeeky clean. There were dormer style windows in both the sleeping area and the bathroom which looked out to the gray-white mountain caps contrasting against the crisp blue, almost violet, sky.

The dining room offers full board as well, but we only had breakfast which was very good. Assorted juices, breads and pastries, meats and cheeses, cereals, hard boiled eggs, jams and juices (the most delicious apricot juice!) There is also an outdoor terrace and lovely garden areas surrounding the hotel and pool. Plenty of parking.

Town is just down the hill, and you walk through a lovely little orchard - apricots (perhaps the source of that yummy juice?), apples and plums. Some parts of town were a little snooty, but it is great place to find an outdoor cafe and watch daily life play out before your eyes. The center of town holds the public thermal waters facility. They offer the complete range of curative treatments here. There is also a HUGE outdoor pool. There is a large golf club, as well as tons of spas and beauty treatment facilities. We drove through the mountain pass over to Brenner, Austria for the day. There were plenty of paths for hiking, too, although it may not be mountain hiking.
