A very nice small hotel just on the edge of the city center with free parking. That made it very easy to get in and out of town for day trips. I had a single which was very small, but the door opened to a private patio and direct access to the pool which gave me the feeling of privacy and openness at the same time. The pool had a view looking out over the countryside and was a nice way to spend some time after sightseeing. A typical Italian breakfast was included and was very good. My single room was 85E a night. It was a short walk (5-6 minutes) into the center and no stairs. The bathroom was good size. The front desk staff spoke some English and at least one (maybe the owner) was fluent. They were helpful in arranging a wine tour for me on short notice. I was very happy and would stay there again. The hotel was very nice and in a good location right inside the city walls. The grounds were pretty; they included a pool and a lovely terrace. Breakfast included meats and cheeses, fruit, yogurt, pastries, bread, cereal and cappuccino, of course! There was a private parking lot. Our room was a good size with a fantastic view over the countryside. It was very clean. The bathroom was fine, but the shower didn't have a curtain or door. We thought the shower was an adventure. The main staff (Sandro) was nice and spoke enough English to be helpful, but wasn't chatty at all on a personal level. He was very good about making dinner reservations for us each night, and suggested some great places--especially since we had a car. We paid €175 in late May. Our room was called a double deluxe. This was a wonderful hotel!! The hotel is actually part of the wall of the town. This gives it fabulous views of the valley! Each room is named after a flower, that flower is painted on the walls, set in vases in the rooms and in scented packets hung on the bed. It is a small hotel, I beleive less than 10 rooms. The price is a bargain, we paid €150 per night for a double. The a/c is remote controlled units, so was very powerful. There were several patios to relax on and sitting rooms around the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. This was a true highlight in hotels. It doesn't hurt that Montalcino is a simply wonderful town!!
