When: June 2007

A clean, quiet, comfortable place to spend a night in Pisa, with friendly staff and decent buffet breakfast. {3 stars}

Location: This hotel is in the San Francesco quarter, a block away from the Arno and across the street from Chiesa San Andrea (the hotel building used to be the convent back in the Middle Ages).

We took the red line bus from the airport, transferred to a green line bus at the train station, then walked a block or two from the bus stop to the hotel. A cheap and easy trip with lovely views of the city en route, but I'd recommend a taxi for anyone not comfortable navigating on their own.

It's perhaps a twenty minute walk to the Duomo, and about the same to the train station. Only a couple minutes' walk to the shops of Borgo Stretto, and many restaurants.

Quality/rooms: Our family of four stayed here for one night at the end of June 2007. We paid 130 euros for a quad room with air conditioning and buffet breakfast. Some websites show it as 3 star, some as 2 star. I'd say 3 stars.

Our quad room was large (relatively speaking), clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the view of the old stone church across the (very narrow) street. We heard no noise from either the street or other guests. There was one double bed, two pull out singles, and a chaise lounge. The bathroom was also clean with good shower pressure and lots of hot water.

Check in was painless and friendly, as was check out. We were able to leave our luggage for several hours after check out so we could explore the city before our train left.

Breakfast was quite decent. Not a huge variety, but very good croissants, yogurt, juice, cereals, espresso and hot chocolate (which the girls said was delicious and ever so much better than what they get at home!)

I would definitely stay here again.
