We booked a water view room with a balcony at this hotel. We had a direct view of the marina with two large yachts and several smaller boats all docked. The hotel is a small hotel along the marina just over one of the bridges onto Ortigia. It was in a good location for walking all over the island as well as going into the newer part of the city to visit the catacombs and the Greek ruins. The rooms were spacious and nicely appointed with a large bathroom and good air conditioning and CNN international. They have a small laptop in each room that you need to get log in information from the desk to use, but access is free. They have a very nice roof deck where they serve a buffet breakfast of fruit, pastry and cereal along with coffee, tea and juice. The desk person gave good restaurant suggestions and helped with calling cabs when needed. I really liked both Siracusa and the hotel. I would definitely return to the hotel if I get to Siracusa again. They were so pleasant and the rooms were really nice. Reviewed by: cubbies from CA, review #1403 When: April 2006
L'Approdo delle Sirene was a perfect spot for us to explore Siracusa and is well located for those without a car. The 8 quiet rooms comprise a recently renovated ancient building facing the harbor and just steps from one of the bridges to the mainland. The atmosphere is spare, modern, and slightly nautical. In good weather, breakfast is served on a terrace on the top level with a "to die for" view. Buffet breakfast is included and features one or two specialty items each day besides the normal fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, and pastries. Friedrich Schmuck, the owner, is a delightful host. He arranged two excellent tour guides for us and referred us to his sister in a nearby travel agency for purchase of ferry tickets to Malta. His staff is friendly and helpful. Our double room with balcony and great view was 120 euros per night. Minus: the web site music and graphics. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
