A very lovely country guest house located outside Orvieto. Set in the beautiful countryside of Southern Umbria, this is a perfect spot to relax and get over jet lag on arrival from Rome, or take in the peaceful setting before heading home. Located an easy 90 minutes from FCO airport, L'Ombricolo is easy to find and is a good location from which to explore Orvieto and southern Umbrian towns, as well as Civita di Bagnoregio and parts of Lazio. Dawne, the British hostess, has done a beautiful job in decorating this house. It has been featured in the magazine Architectural Digest and Karen Brown's Romantic Inns and B&Bs. Dawne is a terrific and interesting hostess who also offers a 5 course meal with apertifs, wine and after dinner drinks for a reasonable fee. It was delicious and we enjoyed her company very much. There are 5 beautiful guest rooms. We stayed in a suite on the second floor that was both beautiful and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was also great and modern. Bathrobes were provided, an extra I always appreciate. The website pictures are very accurate. Our room was a reasonable 120 euros and was a total delight. I will always think about staying here on my way from Rome if I have travel plans in the area. Highly recommended for both the house and the hostess!
