Adequate hotel in a lovely hilltop village. Our room had an east view with balcony. Our room shared a balcony but we did not meet our neighbor.

This was the only place in Italy that charged our credit card for one night before we arrived. Additionally, they charged the remaining days of our stay when we checked in. This always makes me highly suspicious.

The room was large, sparsely furnished and had no bathtub. It did have a jacuzzi shower which sprayed water out of jets spaced upward from you knees to your chest. Interesting, but after a long day of trekking, nothing beats soaking in a hot bath.

There was a major construction project blocking the main entrance to the village. We had to drive the entire length of town to park at the hotel. Meeting another car requires that one either back up or pull into a side street (which are few and far between).

At 4:00am during our stay, someone knocked on all the doors in our wing of the hotel and tried to convince occupants to open the door (presumably so this person could use the phone). They even tried the door to our room (which was double bolted). This terrified my wife, who called the front desk to alert them that there was a problem.

It was then that we discovered the front desk was unattended at night and the phone information in the room provided no contact information or emergency phone numbers.

We ate all meals out of the hotel except for the continental breakfast. I would not specifically avoid this hotel, but on our next visit we will book elsewhere.

A classy establishment in the nice hill town of Montefollonico with an excellent adjacent restaurant.

Our room with exposed brick walls and a spacious bathroom was designed and decorated with a great care; all furnishings exuded simple elegance. It looked as if someone thought about giving it a character without overlooking a single detail. It felt small and intimate rather than crampy. And the view from the window was breathtaking. There is no elevator though so we had to carry all our bags to the second floor and parking in the hotel's small yard was a challenge. Kind and helpful receptionists speak English. 90 euros per double. An excellent restaurant - Il Medioevo - is part of the establishment. {See restaurant review under Tuscany-South on SlowTrav}
