My husband and I attended the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy with another couple. Following our stay in Torino, we spent 3 nights at the La Meridiana near Alba. We read of the property on this site, and we were quite pleased with the accommodations. We visited relatives in Piacenza, Italy earlier on our arrival day. We knew our arrival to La Meridiana would be later in the evening. The owners were very accommodating and waited up for us. We expected a regular "hotel" type room and were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in what we would consider an apartment. It was very lovely! There was a "kitchen/sitting" room which held a compact kitchen along one wall. There were beautiful antique type furnishings, including a wooden table and chairs, a sofa and a television. There was a separate bedroom, also containing wonderful furnishings. The bathroom was a good size, bright and clean. There was a large deck off of one of the rooms. We did not make use of this, however, because we visited in the winter months. The property overlooks the city of Alba. We were worried we would have difficulty finding it late at night, but it didn't take us long. I think the outdoors would be spectacular in the spring or summer when the countryside and property are in full bloom. We had a nice breakfast, and the host was accommodating. He helped with sight-seeing suggestions and answered the many questions we had for him. This was a great find. I believe it was €80 per night, including breakfast. The location was not bad ... There were many villages and sights to see in the vicinity. I would return and would enjoy doing so in the warmer months. Reviewed by: Robert from CA, review #405 When: October 2003
Located a little over a mile above Alba, set among the owners' vineyards and fruit trees. We chose a hotel type room; kitchens are also available which we will reserve next time (we don't like to eat dinner at 8pm). Our room was nicely decorated with a large armoire, very good bed, plus a feather pillow! Nice large bathroom with full shower enclosure. Very friendly hosts who actually went to the pharmacy with us when my wife's eye was bad (family head is a doctor). Very nice breakfast including an egg from their own chickens as well as homemade jam. About 85 euros a night; a bargain. If we go back to Alba we will stay here. Only about 8 rooms so remains very quaint ... relaxed ... a fabulous place. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
