A delightful B&B with wonderful hosts, walking distance from the center of Cividale.
Staying with Georgio and Claudia was a highlight of our trip, and one that was not planned. The apartment we were supposed to have had in Cividale did not work out, so we scrambled to find a place to stay for six days. The information office gave us a list of B&Bs, and La Piccola Fattoria was the last one we contacted.
It is located in a residential "country" area outside of town and is a five minute drive or an easy 20 minute walk to the center of Cividale. You are given the key to the gate at the street as well as to your apartment. Georgio is very clear as to how to lock and unlock the gate, as you have to be careful not to let the animals (a horse, two dogs, and two cats) escape. Because of the animals there is no parking inside the gate but parking on the street was convenient and safe.
Our upstairs apartment had a bedroom with double bed, dresser, night tables and lamps; adequate bathroom with shower; sitting room with dining table and chairs, two soft chairs and a small TV. All the furnishings are antique style and comfortable. Claudia collects things from the monthly antique fair. I believe there is at least one other room that is rented out.
We missed having a kitchen and we asked for a small refrigerator which Claudia promptly provided. It was a table top model big enough for juice and cheese.
We had breakfast every morning downstairs in their dining room. Claudia served the usual bread (which she baked fresh on Sunday), jams, coffee or tea, juice. Georgio speaks some English, but Claudia does not. We were able to have some simple conversations, though, such as the unmarried independent state of our children.
There is a patio with table and chairs in front of their living space that we were invited to use whenever we wanted. Being very outgoing, this couple often had company enjoying a meal at that table.
Cividale is a great base for exploring Friuli-Giulia and we took many day trips.
Every day we would come home to some small surprise: tomatoes or grapes from their garden, a soft throw in case we were chilled, an omelet for a snack.
On the day we left, I gave Claudia a bead bracelet and she gave me a pillbox; we had become good friends in a short time.
We paid €60 a night for the room. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
