There was nothing we did not like about this place or Montepulciano. We are from Florida and this was our first trip to Italy and Europe. My wife and I brought our son and daughter, ages 19 and 22 and they loved this place as well. When we arrived my wife's jaw dropped! She was in love and so were the rest of us. Staying here was like going back in time but with all the comforts. Each morning one of our hosts served home made pastries. There were also great restaurants in town. We traveled all over Tuscany from this location. Make your reservation as far in advance as possible. Reviewed by: RT from USA, review #2293 When: June 2008
This place was fantastic! When we arrived we were really blown away! The view was priceless. The rooms were the nicest we had found after traveling Italy for 2 weeks and at a great price. The owners, husband and wife team, were friendly and very helpful. They went all out to make our stay memorable. The owner's wife is a great cook and serves an assortment each morning for breakfast. Although you will see tourists, Montepulciano is not crowded. The weather in June was wonderful! Since it is on top of a hill, it was cool during the day and cooler at night. Very low humidity. This is an excellent base to explore Tuscany. Reviewed by: AlliK from DC, review #1025 When: May 2005
We spent 3 nights in room #4 at Meuble il Riccio for 85 euros/night in May. The hotel is in a great location, just off the Piazza Grande at the top of the hill in Montepulciano. There are excellent sitting areas - a breakfast area (breakfast not included in the rate), a living room area with comfortable couches, and a rooftop terrace which fabulous views of Montepulciano all the way across the valley to Cortona, Lago di Bolsena, etc. Our room was a good size with a comfortable bed and large, relatively modern bathroom (with hairdryer). There was some noise through the walls and hallway to other rooms, but all of the guests were quiet at night and we slept great. Owners Gio and Ivana were very nice and willing to make reservations for restaurants, etc. It doesn't hurt to speak a little bit of Italian, but Gio in particular was pretty conversant in English. Parking in the centro storico is included; however, I would advise you not try to drive right up to the hotel on your first try! We parked along the perimeter road up toward the top of town initially and got directions for navigating the small, twisty roads from Ivana once we checked in. Overall, we thought this was a very good value and served as a great homebase for exploring Southern Tuscany. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
