Unreliable electricity ruined our stay.
This hotel was the only major negative aspect of a nice week in Tuscany. I booked through the Grosseto agency byfarmholidays.com.
I specifically requested a room with air conditioning and a bathtub. When we arrived at the Montaperti Hotel, we were given a room with only a shower. We were moved to a room with a bathtub at our request, but the power was out in the room. It took about half an hour to get the power back on. Two other times during the week our power went out, and we had to wait 20 minutes for the front desk to sort through a large bag of metal keys because our electronic key cards did not work with the power out.
We requested a discount when we checked out, but it was denied. The hotel manager said that we had received a free upgrade to a "Superior Room" when we checked in.
I do not consider this to have been an upgrade, because we got only what we had originally requested - a room with a bathtub. Plus a room without reliable electricity can hardly be called "Superior." (Other guests had problems with the electricity as well.)
The agristurismo agency we booked through also refused to give us a discount. I recommend avoiding both the agency and the hotel.
All of the other information I received from slowtrav.com about Tuscany, especially resources from Pauline Kenny and Dean Gold, were most helpful.
