This was a magical evening in Certaldo Alto.

A wonderful and charming small hotel. Very attentive and welcoming staff. We felt like we were treated more like visiting friends rather than hotel guests.

Our room was comfortable, relaxing, clean and very nicely decorated. Very comfortable bed and adequate bathroom. We were right over the entrance, so we could gaze out on the street below which was very quiet at this time of year.

The breakfast was lovely and very elegantly served. We did dine in the restaurant the evening of our stay [see restaurant reviews on SlowTrav.com].

Although we only spent one night here, I could easily imagine a longer stay using Certaldo Alto and Osteria del Vicario as a base.

We paid 95 euros/night with breakfast included.

Hotel and Ristorante Osteria del Vicario in Certaldo Alto ... For A Romantic Weekend or A Base from Which to Tour.

The service at this hotel was faultless. The staff were so attentive; with impeccable manners. Sometimes hotels with this class of service can be very formal and rigid and make you feel uncomfortable but we loved the ambiance here. We could chill.

The views from the terrace/courtyard are lovely, from here you can see San Gimignano. Originally the hotel was a monastery so although it is small it has lots of charm and originality, as we say in England "very olde worlde." Our room was very comfortable and the decor was in fitting with the surroundings.

A meal in the restaurant is not to be missed and for those who like their vino, they have a wine list to be proud of. Wine waiters are trained at this establishment and what an experience it is to have the waiter open a bottle of wine for you, don't take your eyes off him-none of us has had wine served like this before.

We found this hotel to be a very good base, its location allowed us to mix with the very friendly locals and from Certaldo's train station we had easy access to Florence, Siena and Pisa. A fabulous place for a romantic weekend or an excellent touring base. We paid approx 90 euros for a double room inclusive of breakfast.
