We stayed at the Relais Vignale for three nights towards the end of April and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our junior suite on the top floor was clean, comfortable and pleasantly furnished and overlooked the gentle hills of vine and olives; it appeared that most of the rooms had similar views. The hotel complex includes a main building and an annex across the street, which is the primary thoroughfare running through town. There are gracious public rooms, with bar and fireplaces, for reading and relaxing, and a lovely pool. The breakfast area in cozy brick barrel-vaulted rooms is down a short flight of stairs from the reception desk. The hotel's Taverna restaurant is situated beneath the hotel on the street side. They also operate another restaurant in the town which was superb. Cross the street, and you are right in the easily navigated town of Radda with a variety of enotecas, restaurants and shops; here we found one of our favorite shops in Italy, Neltempo, specializing in handpainted ceramics, boxes and a variety of decorative items, all products of the husband and wife owners. The Relais Vignale is a great base to explore other parts of Chianti and Tuscany. We hope to return. Reviewed by: KenC from MA, review #615 When: May 2004
We were very impressed with Vignale, a large property in Radda, Chianti. It is a beautiful 3 star hotel in a perfect location—highly recommended. After checking into our room we went down to the Vignale Tavern for lunch. We sat under an arbor-covered terrace and could not believe the scene before us. It was drop dead gorgeous. Flowers bloomed in every shade imaginable. Olive trees were in the foreground with vineyards going off in different directions and fields with multiple shades of green interspersed with cypress trees. My wife and I both felt that we were now on vacation! Relais Vignale offers so many places where one can walk around and enjoy the scenery. We found the pool and many beautiful plantings outside. There is also an ancient well located outside the reception desk. They offer wine, olive oil, and vinegar tasting and you can purchase their products to take with you. An Internet connection is available within a private room at no charge. Vignale is only a short walk to the center of town—very convenient. In the morning they serve a wonderful breakfast. In warm weather you can dine outdoors with a perfect view of the Tuscan hillside. Otherwise, you can eat inside. They offer eggs made to order in addition to wonderful breakfast meats, a selection of Pecorino cheese, rolls, muffins, toast, cereals, and fruit. The Ristorante Vignale, owned by the hotel, is located a short distance in the center of town. This is a classy restaurant with outstanding food. We ate there and recommend it highly. We spent only three nights at this hotel and wish we had more time to enjoy the property. We love it and hope to go back! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
