Fabulous place to stay in Matera's Sassi.

This was the second time I've stayed at the Residence San Giorgio. The first time was in 2010.

The staff is fantastic and will go out of its way to make you feel comfortable and at home. The hotel offers lodging in both caves and traditional rooms, so you can choose which works best for you, depending on your needs.

It's also conveniently located, with several great restaurants right down the block. Highly recommended!

Large rooms, reasonably priced ... can stay in a cave!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Residence San Giorgio. The rooms are large and are more like apartments, as they include a full kitchen. I think I paid 65 Euros per night. The hotel is located in the Sassi, which is a must if you are going to Matera. If you want to stay in one of their caves, be sure to ask, as they have a variety of accommodations. You can see the rooms on their website.

Alessandra, the manager, was extremely helpful and attentive. She helped me look for lodging in Rome and recommended a guide, who not only showed me around the Sassi, but helped me find the village that my grandparents were from. (Francesco - telephone #39.347.5736470)
