Pretty, centrally-located, quiet and a great price!

Blessed with air conditioning to beat back the summer heat, and in almost spitting-distance of the Duomo, we had a pleasant two-night stay at Residenza Giotto.

Our room was average-sized, prettily decorated in cool, muted colors with a decent-flow showerhead and a nice view of the Campanile and Duomo. Doors opened to a tiny balcony. Despite being on the very well-beaten path, it was very quiet here (except for the bells in the Campanile which tolled twice a day, but I rather enjoy the sound of church bells).

We were greeted hospitably by the proprietress and shown the common room with a frigo and the larger communal balcony. A lockable armoire acts as a room safe. She spoke very good English, but humored me by speaking Italian when I told her I was trying desperately to learn the language. (Waiters in the area didn’t have such patience; I spoke in Italian and they always responded in English.)

Keys are given to the large street-side doors, the Residenza’s front door, and the room as staff is on-site only during the day. Breakfast is provided on a tray in the room and consists of packaged croissants and cereals, cryopack milk and instant coffee (we found a nearby bar for our cappuccino fix).

With the central location, the quietude, and the friendliness of the staff, (not to mention that well-functioning air conditioning in the nearly 100` heat!) we thought Giotto was a bargain at €115 per night.
