Centrally located. Bargain by Rome standards. Clean with nice bathroom. Small place with just a few rooms. Breakfast across the street in a cafe.

Rather quiet despite the central location. €110/night Comfortable bed. Equivalent to a 2-3 star place but better! If we ever go back to Rome we probably will stay here.

If weather's right, this hotel can work. (Read full review for problem areas.)

The residence is located on the 4th floor (5th if you count like we do) of a residence. It has a small elevator available. The staff ranged from very friendly to a bit indifferent.

Our room (#5) was good size by European standards. It had a king bed, a single bed, a couch, a desk, two nightstands, a TV and closet. It also had a very small bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. The view opened up onto Victor Emmanuel and you could just see the corner of the Campo dei Fiori.

And therein lie our problem. The airconditioning had been disconnected for the year yet the room would be very stuffy without the window open so we had absolutely incredible, no way to describe it, street noise.

Our room was a nonsmoking, but because others weren't we could smell the smoke seeping under the door beginning every morning at about 6:15 (another reason we needed our window open.)

Also, though the location is across the street from the Campo dei Fiori and around the corner from the Piazza Navona and walking distance to just about most sites, I found I felt just a smidge removed. I think the busy street stole all the coziness away.

That being said, if you were going at a time when you could keep the windows closed (due to either air conditioning or heater being on), the price cannot be beat. It was €105 a night for two, including breakfast across the street at Cafe Lebowsky (a roll, a coffee and orange juice.)

Mediocre and noisy; booked four nights but left after one

We had booked four nights at Residenza San Pantaleo and left after one. The good points of this small inn include a very good location just 1 1/2 blocks south of Piazza Navona and we received friendly greetings and service when we arrived. It's very small with only five rooms, and we'd reserved a room facing into the interior courtyard to avoid the street noise from the busy piazza in front, which our room accomplished: we heard not a vespa screaming all night.

Unfortunately, the doors to the rooms are extremely thin and we were kept awake all night by the other guests. First by banging on the door and ringing bells at midnight (we were jetlagged and went to bed early). Then by screaming, and singing what sounded like bawdy German beer-hall tunes at 2:00 a.m. This continued for quite a while. I realize the management can't know what kind of noise guests are going to make (and living upstairs they were likely awakened, too), but better insulated doors would have helped. Since this party was staying several more nights we chose to depart rather than be sleepless in Rome for 4 nights straight. We had no problems from the manager about departing early. The room was basic and clean though there was some mildew in the bathroom. Beds were extremely firm (read: hard).

Would I stay here again? Doubtful, but for budget travelers who have no problems sleeping through noise, it'd be a good option due to the location and nice staff. They seem to want to make improvements so hopefully in the future it will include some upgrades.
