Parioli: Suite Oriani

Via Barnaba Oriani, 92, Phone:

When: September 2006

An immaculate and elegant B&B in Parioli, just north of the historic district and only 5 minutes to the Metro.

I stayed in Rome for nine nights and found Suite Oriani to be an ideal pick for my stay. Having been to Rome before, I didn't need to be in the heart of the Historic district. This time I was looking for something quiet, less touristy and thought that Parioli might offer what I was looking for.

Suite Oriani is located in a small, private townhouse building on the quiet street of Via Barnaba Oriani. The owners live on the ground level. Alessandro, the owners son and manager is very formal and very concerned with the well being of his guests. The town house is immaculate and styled with antique and elegant furnishings. My rate with breakfast was 119 Euro/night.

The bed was extremely comfortable. My room had its own bath, a lockable closet, mini-fridge, balcony and small table with two chairs where breakfast is served. Renata, the maid is as sweet as one can describe. Her care is unsurpassed.

There is a supermarket about 15 minutes walk away, as well as other shops. There are many resturants too, La Scala was the best...reservation recommended. It was always full!

My only reservation would be for someone who has difficulty with stairs. Not in the townhouse, but walking the neighborhood. To get to the Metro, there is a short set of steps that leads down to Piazza Euclide. This of course must be climbed upon one's return. There is a slight hill to walk up to get back to the gate. Nothing difficult, but it could be for someone physically impaired.

I highly recommend this as it seems to be the ideal Slow Trav sort of place... Quiet, relaxing, loaded with elegance and charm, detail oriented owner, well priced etc.
