My Mom and I made our second trip to Italy in November. We stayed at Tourish House Ghiberti for the location and amenities provided. The staff was extremely helpful, breakfast plentiful and it was quiet and clean. The location also cannot be beat, centrally located to just about everything in Florence. We were quoted 99 euros per night, discounted for our four night stay. However, since we paid cash, it was reduced further to 91 euros a night. Well worth it! This place was very central - walking distance from all the main attractions. Opposite the hospital which could have been noisy but the double, double glazing seemed to block out the noise very well. The whole place was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was very nice and served from 7.30am to 11.30am in the breakfast room. There was a computer with fast internet available in each room at no extra charge. We stayed for 6 nights. There was a discount for the time of year and for cash payment. When we left it was raining hard and they ordered a taxi to take us to the railway station. We were almost at the station when the taxi company rang through having heard from them that we had left a shirt behind. The taxi turned back to collect it and the owner was standing outside in the rain waiting to hand through the window to us. How about that? We certainly recommend this place to other travellers. €100/night, double room, single occupancy. This was an absolutely delightful place to stay. The rooms were spacious, clean, and the bathrooms were modern and roomy with hairdryers. The double windows kept the noise out. Each room had its own computer with high speed internet connection, DVD player, fax machine, telephone, large flat screen TV, a mini-bar, and a safe. The breakfast was more than adequate. There was a variety of meat and cheese along with brioche, bread for toasting, hard rolls, fresh fruit, cereal, fruit juices, coffee, cappuccino and a large tea chest with a huge variety of tea. Tea and coffee were available all day. The breakfast room was next to a beautiful terrace with lots of plants and a little waterfall arrangement. It was available whenever we wanted to use it. A jacuzzi tub and a sauna were also available for guests' use. The location was convenient and within walking distance of the major attractions as well as restaurants, bars, shops and markets. Claudio and Christelle, the owners, were always ready to answer our questions and give assistance in any way they could. I highly recommend this B&B and would definitely stay there again. Free in-room internet access and DVD movies were wonderful after a long day of sightseeing. The room and bathroom were absolutely spotless. The room was large and decorated in a modern style. The breakfasts were great and there is seating indoors or outside on a plant/flower filled terrace. The B&B is located on a second floor but there is an elevator as well as a staircase to reach it. We paid about 140 euros a night with the cash discount. The owners have definitely put a lot of money into their place and it shows. The location was very good. About a 5 minute walk to the Duomo, about 5 minutes to the Accademia, and about 15-20 minutes to the Uffizi. Definitely recommend. Reviewed by: girlbybay from CA, review #1258 When: September 2005
I've heard many people say that Claudio, the host, is not friendly, but after speaking with him extensively, I don't agree at all. I think he runs a 'tight ship', but he is efficient and very caring about providing great service. And, having a newborn baby, I think he's just sleep-deprived and doesn't have a lot of time for idle chatter. What he does provide is a spotlessly clean and charming place with lots of creature comforts, including free in-room internet access, wonderful breakfasts in a cheery room, or outside terrace and a jacuzzi & sauna room with greatt rates. My double room for a single was €135, including breakfast. Tourist House Ghiberti is also centrally located - right near the Doumo. And, Claudio has a great list of restaurant referrals, including Yellow Bar - an excellent family pizza place - and Cantina Barbagianni which was amazing cuisine in a modern atmosphere. I would definitely stay here again. It was perfect! Reviewed by: colleenk from MA, review #653 When: April-May 2004
This lovely B&B was opened in 2002 by a young couple with a good deal of experience at high-end hotels. It is located on the 2nd floor and has a small elevator. Claudio and Christelle are friendly and accommodating hosts who have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. Claudio happily made dinner reservations, arranged for a very early taxi and carried my bags on arrival and departure. The 5 rooms are beautifully decorated with orginal art, have mini-bars with very reasonable prices, are large by European standards, have modern, good sized bathrooms with fluffy towels and all have AC. The beds are very comfortable - and despite being in the heart of Florence - the room was very quiet. I was in a back room; it may be noisier on the street. Although I never used them, they have a jacuzzi and sauna room and provide bathrobes for your use in them. The buffet breakfast was great with a homemade torta each day, coffee or cappuccino (which was only fair), a large selection of cereals, yogurt, fruit, meats and cheeses. The breakfast room also opens up onto a sunny terrace but it was generally too cool to eat out there during my stay. Everything was exceptionally clean. The selling point for me was the individual computers in each room with high speed internet access provided at no extra charge. For a solo traveler this was a great way to keep in touch and write in my blog! My room, a double for single use was €130 in high season which was reduced to €117 for cash payment. A double room is €150 in high season. The only drawback is a lack of any real common area except for the outside terrace. I loved everything about this B&B! Location, comfort, and amenities. I highly recommend this B&B and would gladly stay there again if not staying in an apartment. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
