The Internazionale Domus in Rome will always be a pleasurable memory for us. The centuries old building also houses its sister hotel, Relais Pierret. There were five adults in our family group, so we went with the 100 sqm apartment, 'Pierret', with a "kitchenette" cabinet, just fine to open our wine, and eat our salami/cheese/grapes. Comprised of a gorgeous living room (with pullout sofa-beds), 2 bedrooms, 2 modern bathrooms, 2 TVs, a mini-fridge, a hot plate, dishes and utensils. The shuttered windows, draped in beautiful Italian fabric, open onto the photogenic Spanish Steps Piazza. It was August (holiday time), so Alex was the only one on desk duty for both properties. FYI, the hotel is minimal service, which was fine for us. We were out sightseeing all day, and dinner at restaurants are a 2-3 hour event. The desk closed at 5:00 pm during our stay, so Alex gave us a personal card with his cell number if we needed anything. We did encounter a problem, in that being 5 adults, we were only given 2 keys, and no one at desk meant no one could buzz in the key less person. The location is perfect. A bit noisy sometimes, but worth it. Our last night while packing, we were treated to a classical concert with beautiful arias! We watched from our windows and shouted 'Bravo' along with the crowd below. We recommend the bus tour your first day ... worth it to see overview of Rome! Note, we hesitantly left the line at Colosseum to join in a tour. It was well worth the 10 euro! You get an English speaking tour guide leading about 25 people, but you also skip the line and the information is incredible! Much better than on your own, you learn about why women did not sit in Colosseum, the culture, habits, the reality. Fascinating! Also, included is the same day continuation tour of the Forum! Unbeatable for history buffs. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
