When: Fall 2002

Rooms, apartments and restaurant on a farm.

A farm really, with a few rooms and apartments.

We stayed in the apartment and ate dinner one night in the restaurant. Easy access to Modena and Bologna.

Signora Bini is to be met to be believed; a truly wonderful and beautiful woman who manages without a single word of english to make you feel warmly welcomed. Her niece, Marta, born in the United States arranges the rentals. Very friendly staff, outstanding country emilia romano cuisine and really a very pretty setting.

There was a safety concern some years ago, but this has been laid to rest with a very modern security arrangement throughout. Non-smoking.

When: December 2001

Family farm offering apartments and an excellent restaurant.

In Castelfranco Emilia is Villa Gaidello run by Paola Bini - one of the sweetest women in all of Italy. She took over the family farm - made several apartments and an excellent restaurant. The local women from the area do all the cooking in the traditional way. Many articles have been written about her over the years - hence you are likely to see other Americans, but not always. She told me one time that many Americans come to Villa Gaidello, but I was the only one who kept coming back. She has never spoken one word of English to me - although her sister lives in Virgina and runs a B&B there.

Paola knows my love of Sig. Pedroni's Nocino (a walnut based liquor) and every time we dine with her, she packs a small bottle of her Nocino for me to take with me. I've spent many wonderful afternoons in her pasta room, watching and learning to make tortellini. The food is excellent and again, very good prices.
